Over the last decade the specialty coffee world has moved further and further from dark roast coffee offerings. Our philosophy has always been to create approachable coffees and for many people that means familiar flavors, which dark roast coffee typically has a lot of.
But beyond that we love the flavor of dark roast and the different ways the cellular structure of the bean changes throughout the roasting process.
Our Midnight Espresso Blend is what we default to on our espresso drinks at the cafe. It’s used in dozens of shops throughout Reno, NV and Northern California through our wholesale partners, and is genuinely a delicious and traditional dark roast espresso.
Each of the three beans in this blend brings a specific and unique flavor characteristic. We use Peru to bring the familiar dark roast toffee and smokey flavors you’ve come to expect, the Brazil bean for the body and rich thick feeling of espresso, and the natural Ethiopian for some unique fermenty and dark berry flavor notes. Overall it’s low acidity and easy to drink (and love!) The main theory behind this specific blend is for it to pull great shots in any condition, in any espresso machine, with all kinds of water. It’s the most titular of the coffees we have when we say our coffees are durable. If you have an espresso machine at home, this is the coffee to use in it. However we do suggest our Sidekick Espresso Blend for espresso machines that have built in grinders, as manufacturers frequently suggest beans lacking oily surfaces.
In milk-based drinks this espresso blend creates caramel and brown sugar notes. On its own expect smokey, toffee, nutty, and a brighter finish.
